
ALBUQUERQUE – In a shocking turn of events, Thelda Frank, a 42-year-old Navajo woman from Farmington, New Mexico, was sentenced to a year of supervised release for her assault conviction on Tuesday.
According to court documents, Frank was arrested in January 2013, based on an indictment charging her with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The indictment alleged that Frank assaulted a man with a knife on July 27, 2011, in a location within the Navajo Indian Reservation.
Frank pleaded guilty to a felony information charging her with assault on September 25, 2013, and admitted to stabbing a man in the abdomen with a knife on July 27, 2011.
The investigation into Frank’s crime was a joint effort between the Farmington office of the FBI and the Shiprock office of the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob A. Wishard at the helm, prosecuted the case.
Frank’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violent crime. The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered serious bodily injury as a result of Frank’s actions.
