Woodbridge Man Sentenced for Attempting to Lure Minor into Sex
A 40-year-old man from Woodbridge, Virginia has been convicted of attempting to coerce a minor into sex.
James Aubrey Brown, IV, was arrested on September 14, 2015, after responding to a Craigslist ad posted by a 13-year-old girl living on Marine Corps Base Quantico. Over a period of 12 days, Brown repeatedly pressed the girl to meet and engage in sexual acts, including oral and vaginal sex.
According to court records and evidence presented at trial, Brown solicited nude photos of the girl and arranged to meet her at the base. He even directed her as to what to wear and what to do when he arrived.
Brown was indicted on December 1, 2015, and faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life in prison when sentenced on June 24, 2016.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Whitney Dougherty Russell and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Longobardo, with the support of U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente and Special Agent in Charge Darrell Gilliard of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Washington D.C. Field Office.
U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady accepted the verdict, and the sentencing is set for June 24, 2016. Brown’s sentence will be determined by the court based on the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of online safety and the consequences of attempting to coerce minors into sex. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
