Yarelis Mary Garcia Corretjer and Reyelin Manuel Abreu Vasquez, Fentanyl Distribution, Pennsylvania 2020

In a shocking turn of events, a Philadelphia woman and a Dominican man have been charged with federal crimes related to fentanyl distribution in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The indictment, unsealed earlier today, names 23-year-old Yarelis Mary Garcia Corretjer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and 23-year-old Reyelin Manuel Abreu Vasquez of the Dominican Republic.

According to the indictment, Corretjer and Vasquez conspired to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl on or about September 16, 2020. Additionally, during a traffic stop by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Safe Highways Initiative through Effective Law Enforcement and Detection (SHIELD) Unit, approximately 400 bricks of suspected fentanyl were seized from their vehicle.

The suspected fentanyl field-tested positive for the controlled substance. Vasquez informed law enforcement that he was illegally in the United States and had crossed the Mexican border approximately four years ago.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than life in prison, a fine of $10,000,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Katherine C. Jordan is prosecuting this case for the government.
