YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – Alexis Perez, a 32-year-old man from Youngstown, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a heroin distribution conspiracy. Perez was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and related charges.
According to Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Perez was part of a ring that brought heroin from Chicago and other areas to Youngstown. ‘This ring brought heroin in from out of state and sold it on the streets of Youngstown,’ Dettelbach said. ‘We will continue to do these kinds of exhaustive investigations designed at shutting off the stream of illegal drugs.’
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted from March 2009 through March 2012 by the FBI Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force (MVVCTF) and the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force (MVLETF). The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys David M. Toepfer and M. Kendra Klump.
Perez’s sentencing is the result of a lengthy investigation into heroin distribution in the Youngstown area. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies worked together to bring down the conspiracy and hold those responsible accountable. ‘This sentencing sends a strong message that we will not tolerate heroin distribution in our communities,’ Dettelbach said.
The sentencing of Perez is a significant blow to those involved in heroin distribution in the Youngstown area. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to combat the heroin epidemic in our region,’ Dettelbach said. ‘We urge anyone with information about heroin distribution to come forward and report it to law enforcement.’
As the heroin epidemic continues to plague the nation, law enforcement agencies are working harder than ever to combat the problem. The sentencing of Perez is a reminder that those involved in heroin distribution will face severe consequences. ‘This is a major victory in our fight against heroin distribution,’ Dettelbach said. ‘We will continue to work together with our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe.’
