South Carolina Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Methamphetamine Distribution in Florida
A South Carolina man was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution scheme that spanned across multiple states, including Florida.
Zachariah Ryan Luke, 28, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, was sentenced on March 28, 2024 by U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard. Luke’s co-defendant, Evin Rae Davenport, 32, of Greenwood, South Carolina, received a sentence of 12 years in federal prison for the same offense.
Luke and Davenport pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute, and possess with the intent to distribute, 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. Despite being incarcerated in South Carolina for various drug and firearm offenses, Luke used contraband cellphones to communicate with Davenport and coordinate the distribution of illicit narcotics.
According to court documents, Davenport delivered drugs on three separate occasions, including approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine, to a Florida-based drug dealer. The dealer was eventually apprehended in St. Augustine after attempting to dispose of the drugs and abandoning their vehicle in a residential neighborhood.
During a search of Luke’s cellphones, investigators recovered text communications with Davenport and the Florida-based dealer, detailing the logistics of the drug deliveries. This case was the result of a collaborative effort between the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the South Carolina Department of Corrections, and other law enforcement agencies.
Luke and Davenport’s sentences reflect the severity of their crimes, which had a significant impact on the community and put numerous lives at risk. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement’s commitment to combating the scourge of methamphetamine distribution and bringing those responsible to justice.
