Zachary McElderry, Methamphetamine Possession, Nebraska 2024

Omaha Man Sentenced for Possession of Methamphetamine as Repeat Offender

A 35-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 250 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Zachary McElderry was arrested on February 7, 2024, after a DEA sting operation. McElderry had agreed to meet a confidential informant at a QuikTrip in Omaha to sell three pounds of methamphetamine.

However, McElderry attempted to flee from law enforcement, driving recklessly for over three miles and passing vehicles in the wrong direction. He eventually abandoned his vehicle and was apprehended in a residential neighborhood.

During his escape, McElderry threw a backpack containing eight pounds of methamphetamine from his vehicle. A further two pounds of methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle.

McElderry’s sentence was enhanced due to a prior conviction for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in Douglas County District Court. Additionally, the advisory guideline sentencing range was increased due to reckless endangerment during flight from law enforcement.

U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing, stating that McElderry’s actions posed a significant threat to public safety. Chief U.S. District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. imposed the 250-month sentence, which will be followed by a 10-year term of supervised release upon McElderry’s release from prison.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. McElderry’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences faced by those involved in large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operations.
