Zachary Ryan Balusik, a 41-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio, has been sentenced to 168 months in prison for his role in the receipt and distribution of child pornography.
According to court documents, Balusik was identified as a user of online chat rooms that streamed videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. Investigators found that he had been downloading and viewing child pornography for over 10 years.
On February 23, 2022, a search warrant was executed at Balusik’s residence in Toledo, Ohio, where electronic devices were seized and found to contain graphic child pornography featuring prepubescent children.
Balusik, who worked as a supervisory nurse at a local hospital, admitted to investigators that he had been involved in the downloading and viewing of child pornography for more than a decade.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Toledo, Ohio. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Tangeman and Department of Justice Trial Attorney Charles Schmitz.
As part of his sentence, Balusik will also serve a lifetime of supervised release, pay a $100 special assessment, and pay restitution of $12,000.
U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp presided over the sentencing hearing, where Balusik pleaded guilty to the charges. The sentence is a significant blow to those who engage in the heinous crime of child pornography.
