Brian Zamora, Felon in Ammunition Possession, California 2024

FRESNO, Calif. — In a fierce crackdown on illegal firearms, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced that a federal grand jury has indicted Brian Zamora, 28, of Fresno, for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

On August 12, Zamora, known to have a parole violation warrant, was observed placing a bag in a car and entering it. Law enforcement promptly stopped the vehicle, arresting Zamora and discovering a loaded AR-style semi-automatic handgun with no serial number, a ‘ghost gun.’ The firearm was equipped with a high-capacity magazine and 10 rounds of ammunition. Zamora’s prior record includes eight felony convictions in Fresno County.

“This is a clear example of the U.S. Attorney’s Office commitment to reducing violent crime by focusing on firearms prosecutions,” Scott said. “The Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Task Force (MAGEC) played a crucial role in this investigation.”

Adrian Perez, 38, of Wasco, was also indicted for being a felon in possession of ammunition. On January 6, officers discovered an antique handgun and ammunition during a traffic stop. Perez has four prior felony convictions in Kern County.

Fernando Manjarrez, 33, of Turlock, faces similar charges after law enforcement found him with 9mm ammunition on November 15, 2019. Manjarrez has three prior felony convictions in Stanislaus County.

All three defendants face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. These cases are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s efforts to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.
