Tony Peebles, Discharging a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence and RICO Conspiracy, New York 2007

Buffalo, NY – In a bid to curb gang violence, a federal judge sentenced Tony Peebles, a 30-year-old Buffalo resident, to 295 months in prison for his role in the 10th Street Gang.

Peebles was convicted of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and RICO conspiracy. According to prosecutors, Peebles was a member of the 10th Street Gang, which operated in the west side of the City of Buffalo, from 2000 to 2010. The gang members would resort to violence to protect their territory and prevent rival gangs from selling drugs in their area.

Peebles admitted to conspiring with others to possess and distribute cocaine base and marijuana. He also admitted to possessing firearms in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities.

Prosecutors detailed eight separate shooting incidents involving Peebles, including the shooting of two rival gang members on June 15, 2007, and the attempted murder of a rival gang member on August 12, 2009.

Peebles’s sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force. Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. described Peebles as extremely violent and a prolific shooter.

The sentencing marks a significant blow to the 10th Street Gang, which has been a thorn in the side of law enforcement for years. The gang’s activities have led to numerous violent incidents, including shootings and attempted murders.

Peebles’s sentence sends a clear message that gang violence will not be tolerated in the City of Buffalo. The sentencing is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the investigators and prosecutors who brought Peebles to justice.
