COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kendolius Cortez Jones, 32, of West Columbia, has been locked away for over eight years after being caught selling stolen firearms, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Jones pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was proven to have sold 13 firearms to undercover agents between April and June 2023. The illegal wares included firearms with large capacity magazines.
Despite having numerous prior felony convictions including criminal conspiracy, assault and battery, and drug-related offenses, Jones remained forbidden from owning guns or ammunition. His latest conviction stems from his involvement in the illegal arms trade.
Sentencing Jones to 107 months imprisonment followed by three years of court-ordered supervision was U.S. District Judge Sherri A. Lydon, who confirmed there is no parole in the federal system.
This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime. The strategy behind PSN includes fostering community trust, supporting organizations preventing violence, strategic law enforcement actions, and measuring outcomes to enhance public safety.
The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, West Columbia Police Department, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariyana Gore prosecuted the case with relentless pursuit of justice.
