Patrick Civitello, Witness Retaliation, New York 2024

ALBANY, NEW YORK – In a chilling case of witness intimidation, Patrick Civitello, 18, of Schenectady, New York, was indicted on Tuesday for the heinous crime of assaulting the child of a witness who testified against him in a federal criminal trial.

Civitello’s assault on the minor, V-2, occurred on May 19, 2024, in front of the victim’s mother, V-1. The alleged attack was carried out with intent to retaliate for her crucial testimony in a trial where Civitello’s father and brother were convicted of federal drug trafficking charges.

Patrick Civitello is not new to legal troubles. He is the son of Jeffrey Civitello Sr. and the younger brother of Jeffrey Civitello Jr., who both faced justice following a jury trial in Albany in April 2023. The current charges against Patrick are severe, with potential life imprisonment hanging over his head if convicted.

Civitello was nabbed on June 13, 2024, for the alleged assault. Initially ordered released with conditions by United States Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Stewart after a detention hearing on June 14, Civitello remains in custody following an appeal by the government.

The FBI’s Capital District Safe Streets Gang Task Force is leading the investigation into this case, collaborating with the Glenville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Barnett and Dustin Segovia are handling the prosecution.

Patrick Civitello faces up to life in prison and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 5 years if found guilty. His sentence will be determined by a judge based on the particular statute he is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other factors.
