Keon Preston, 19, of Washington D.C., has pleaded guilty in the Superior Court for a shooting and an armed carjacking that occurred on March 23, 2025. His co-defendant, Mekhi Greene, 19, also entered a guilty plea for the same carjacking, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Preston admitted to assault with intent to kill, possession of a machine gun, and carjacking, while Greene pleaded guilty to carjacking alone. Sentencing is set for December 19, 2025, before Judge Deborah Israel. Carjacking convictions carry a mandatory minimum term of seven years in prison.
According to the government’s evidence, on March 23, 2025, at approximately 4:11 p.m., Preston and two others fired roughly 30 rounds at a victim near a bus stop on G Street Southeast. The victim escaped injury, though his residence and vehicle were struck by bullets.
Later that evening, around 9:19 p.m., in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street Northeast, Preston, Greene, and two others carjacked a victim at gunpoint while wearing masks and dark clothing. The suspects fled after a traffic stop but were apprehended by MPD officers. Two illegal firearms, including one with an automatic conversion switch, were recovered from the vehicle.
Preston and Greene were arrested on the scene and have been in custody since. Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department was present for the announcement.
This case is under investigation by the MPD, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Green.
