ST. LOUIS – A chilling tale of gunpoint theft unfolded in St. Louis last year when 19-year-old Ahdaejay Britton, of Bel-Ridge, Missouri, admitted to a brutal armed carjacking.
Britton, accompanied by a juvenile accomplice, ambushed a victim as he parked his Mazda 3 on Lindell Boulevard. The pair followed the man into a stairwell, where they overpowered him and demanded keys to the vehicle. The thief made off with the victim’s wallet and cell phone before leading his cohort to the car.
St. Louis law enforcement quickly tracked down the stolen Mazda, locating the juvenile behind the wheel and Britton in close proximity. Inside the car, officers found a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol along with the victim’s belongings. Britton confessed to the crime, leaving no doubt about his involvement.
Scheduled for sentencing on November 14, Britton faces up to 15 years for carjacking and additional seven years for firearm possession, which must be served consecutively to all other charges. This grim incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that violent crime poses in our communities.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the St. Louis County Police Department jointly investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin leading the prosecution. Britton’s case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer through strategic enforcement and community engagement.
On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a new strategy to combat violent crime within PSN, emphasizing fostering trust, supporting violence prevention efforts, strategic law enforcement, and measuring results to improve public safety.
