ST. LOUIS – In a harrowing turn of events, a young man from St. Louis County faces severe charges after authorities allege he robbed a dealer of controlled substances at gunpoint. Walter C. Moore, 19, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the heinous crime.
The teenager is accused of committing the armed robbery on April 25, according to an indictment unsealed on June 5. Moore’s defense team has entered a plea of innocence for charges that include being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, and robbery.
Documents submitted by law enforcement reveal that the Glock Moore is said to have used was equipped with an auto sear, transforming it into a fully automatic weapon. This wasn’t just any weapon; the magazine was extended, and a laser sight was attached, making the scenario even more terrifying.
It’s not just Moore who is in hot water; his actions carry serious implications. The charge of possession of a machine gun in furtherance of a crime of violence carries a mandatory minimum prison term of 30 years – a life sentence for what could be considered a youthful mistake.
This case has been taken up by the St. Louis County Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Bluestone leading the prosecution. The incident is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities.
