TERRE HAUTE- A federal judge has sentenced Javon Britton to an additional 32 months in prison for possessing a homemade weapon while incarcerated at the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Complex.
Britton, 44, from Georgia, had previously been convicted of robbery and brandishing a firearm during a violent crime, resulting in a 11.5-year sentence. He had been serving his time since 2017.
The incident occurred on April 29, 2019, when Britton exited the prison dining hall. A walk-through metal detector set off an alarm, leading to a pat-down search that uncovered a padlock attached to a belt in his jacket pocket. The homemade weapon was illegal for inmates to possess and posed a significant risk.
Investigation by the Bureau of Prisons’ Special Investigation Services led to Britton’s conviction. U.S. District Judge James R. Sweeney handed down the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys James M. Warden and Jayson W. McGrath prosecuted the case, earning praise from U.S. Attorney Myers.
