United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald announced the formation of the Twin Cities Violent Crime Task Force in response to a surge in gun violence across the city. Since July 8, 2020, over 156 illegal firearms have been taken off the streets.
The Task Force, comprised of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, has led to at least 22 individuals being charged with federal firearms violations, including robbery and carjacking. An additional 19 individuals face charges in state court.
Operating from a centralized command center, the Task Force has shared real-time intelligence and leveraged data analysis to combat gun violence effectively. The collaborative efforts will continue through virtual platforms as the weather turns colder.
U.S. Attorney MacDonald emphasizes the commitment to making streets safe, pointing out the ongoing dedication to stemming the tide of gun violence in the community.
The public is encouraged to report tips by calling 1-800-CALLFBI or submitting pictures and/or videos at www.fbi.gov/violence.
