MINNEAPOLIS – In a gritty turn of events, Javier Juan Valtierra, 31, from Minneapolis, has pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger.
According to court documents and the defendant’s guilty plea, on July 18, 2022, law enforcement responded to reports that Valtierra and another person were unconscious inside a vehicle. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the Smith & Wesson, M&P Bodyguard 380, .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol in Valtierra’s pocket. The firearm was recovered along with baggies of cocaine and methamphetamine found on Valtierra and in the vehicle.
Yesterday, in U.S. District Court, before Senior Judge Michael J. Davis, Valtierra pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm as a felon. A sentencing hearing for this serious offense is yet to be scheduled.
This case is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies involved: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). Their investigation led to Valtierra’s conviction on federal charges.
