A 20-year-old San Antonio man is headed to federal prison for firing a machine gun near Lackland Air Force Base in August 2024. Joseph Anthony Jimenez, 20, fired a stolen 9mm pistol equipped with a machinegun conversion device (MCD) into a field on two separate occasions, prompting a military response.
Jimenez admitted to accidentally shooting his friend later that day, then tossing the MCD-equipped handgun over an apartment complex fence.
A state warrant caught up with him on Aug. 29, 2024. He was federally indicted on Nov. 6, 2024, and transferred to federal custody on Nov. 21, 2024, after pleading guilty to both possession of a machine gun and an unregistered firearm on Dec. 3, 2025.
Jimenez’s attorneys should thank the JBSA Defenders and local and federal authorities for a job well done. The reckless use of a machinegun conversion device nearly spelled disaster.
