PITTSBURGH – The grim streets of Pittsburgh witnessed a brazen act when Leonard Rushin-Felder, 21, was indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting two Deputy United States Marshals. United States Attorney Scott W. Brady made the chilling announcement today.
According to the February 27 indictment, Rushin-Felder, on May 2, 2017, engaged in a violent confrontation with the officers inside the Joseph F. Weis, Jr., United States Courthouse. The defendant forcibly assaulted, resisted, and intimidated the federal law enforcers as they performed their duties.
The law dictates that Rushin-Felder could face a maximum of eight years in prison, a fine totaling $250,000, or both. His actual sentence will hinge on the severity of the offense and his criminal history, if any.
Assistant United States Attorneys Rachael L. Dizard and Eric G. Olshan are leading the prosecution against Rushin-Felder. The investigation was conducted by the United States Marshals Service, ensuring justice is served.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. Rushin-Felder is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by federal law enforcement officers and the serious consequences for those who dare to threaten their safety.
