SCRANTON, PA – Kaylee Ann Widmer, 25, of Thornhurst, Pennsylvania, will spend the next two decades behind bars after being sentenced to 21 years in federal prison on Friday, September 23, 2025. Senior United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani handed down the sentence following Widmer’s conviction on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute oxycodone and 40 grams or more of fentanyl resulting in death.
The case, detailed by Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, paints a grim picture of a drug network operating throughout Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. Between January 2022 and February 2023, Widmer, alongside her boyfriend, Christopher Potter, and others, allegedly peddled deadly narcotics. The operation funneled a constant stream of fentanyl—sourced from the Hazleton, PA area—through the hands of co-conspirator Santino Bellucci.
The deadly consequences of their actions became tragically clear on December 18, 2022, when Bellucci sold fentanyl to an individual who subsequently died. Widmer, as the supplier, bears direct responsibility for that fatal overdose. Investigators traced the fentanyl back to Widmer, cementing her role in the deadly chain of events. This isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a stark reminder of the human cost of the fentanyl crisis ravaging communities across the nation.
Widmer isn’t the only member of this operation facing a lengthy prison term. Judge Mariani previously sentenced both Santino Bellucci, 28, of Dickson City, PA, and Christopher Potter, 30, of Scranton, PA, to 21 years each for their involvement in the conspiracy. The coordinated sentences send a clear message that those who profit from the distribution of deadly drugs will be held accountable.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dunmore Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny Roberts leading the prosecution. This case falls under the umbrella of Operation Take Back America, a sweeping nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It also aligns with the district-wide Heroin Initiative, a focused effort by the United States Attorney’s Office to target heroin traffickers within the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
