Wichita Man Sentenced 22 Years for Distributing Child Pornography
A Wichita man has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography, according to a federal investigation.
Jonathan Curtis McClain, 37, of Wichita, pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography, admitting in his plea that he had previously been convicted of sexual abuse in 1998 in Medford, Ore.
The investigation began in 2016, when agents of the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations in Tennessee identified McClain’s user profile engaged in chats on the Internet telling other users about his interest in watching child pornography. In March 2016, McClain sent child pornography to an investigator.
U.S. Attorney Tom Beall commended the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart for their work on the case.
McClain’s previous conviction for sexual abuse in 1998 raises serious concerns about his potential to reoffend, and the severity of the 22-year sentence reflects the gravity of the crime.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of online safety and the need for vigilance in identifying and reporting suspected child predators.
McClain’s sentence is a significant blow to those who would seek to exploit and harm children through the distribution of child pornography.
