Peter Anthony Pappas, a 41-year-old Jackson, Tennessee man, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for exploiting several minors online between January and March 2024. Pappas used deception to manipulate the minors into providing him with confidential information, which he then used to gain unauthorized access to their online accounts, including social media, cloud storage, and email. His goal was to obtain sexually explicit images and videos from the victims, many of whom he knew were minor children.
Following his guilty plea to two counts of attempted production of child pornography, United States District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson handed down the 30-year sentence, along with 10 years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the FBI Memphis Child Exploitation Task Force, with Assistant United States Attorney Josh Morrow prosecuting on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant stated that the production of child pornography is a disturbing crime that endangers and harms real child victims, and that his office will always seek significant and mandatory minimum sentences for such predatory behavior. The successful prosecution of Pappas has incapacitated a real threat to children and the community in West Tennessee.
The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed by Pappas, who will now spend 30 years behind bars with no possibility of parole. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from online exploitation and the need for law enforcement to continue to investigate and prosecute such crimes.
