35yo Maryland Man Sentenced for Child Porn Possession

A Silver Spring, Maryland man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for possessing child pornography, a federal crime that has shocked the community.

Marc Gange, 35, was found guilty of the crime after a lengthy investigation by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The investigation began in November 2012, when Gange contacted an undercover officer on a social network site, believing the officer to be the father of a 12-year-old girl.

Over the next several days, Gange engaged in online conversations with the undercover officer, sending approximately 79 images of child pornography. The images depicted adult men engaged in sexual acts with children.

Following Gange’s arrest on December 5, 2012, the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force conducted a search of his workspace and residence, recovering three videos and over 1,000 images of child pornography from a USB drive and his computer.

This case was brought as part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide effort to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. The initiative was created in February 2006 by the Attorney General and is led by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices.

In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr., Assistant Director in Charge Valerie Parlave, and Chief Cathy L. Lanier praised the work of the MPD Detectives and Special Agents of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force who investigated the case. They also commended the efforts of Assistant U.S. Attorney Ari Redbord, who prosecuted the case.

Upon completion of his prison term, Gange will be placed on 10 years of supervised release. The case highlights the importance of Project Safe Childhood in combating child exploitation and abuse online.

The FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the MPD are committed to bringing perpetrators like Gange to justice and protecting the community from these heinous crimes.
