A 20-year sentence was handed down to Nathan Rex Upton, a 35-year-old McAlester resident, for his role in possessing over 16,000 images of child sexual abuse.
Upton’s conviction stems from a search warrant executed at his home on October 20, 2022, where authorities seized multiple computer hard drives containing the disturbing content.
According to investigators, Upton’s guilty plea on November 1, 2023, marked the beginning of the end for the defendant, who will now serve 20 years in prison followed by a 10-year term of supervised release.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced Upton’s sentencing, citing the collaborative efforts of the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Secret Service in bringing the case to fruition.
Assistant United States Attorney Caila M. Cleary represented the United States in this matter, with the Honorable Judge Ronald A. White presiding over the hearing.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
