A convicted sex offender, Matthew Albert Tate, 57, of Amarillo, Texas, was caught transporting child sexual abuse material in April 2025, after law enforcement initiated an investigation into child pornography trafficking from an IP address in the Amarillo area. Tate pleaded guilty in January 2026 and was sentenced on May 27, 2026, to 40 years in federal prison. The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.
Tate’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, which involved the distribution of child sexual abuse material, further victimizing the children involved. The court also ordered him to pay $96,500 in restitution to the victims. US Attorney Ryan Raybould stated that Tate’s actions were a betrayal of the most vulnerable members of society and that his office would continue to fight for victims of child abuse.
