Nelson Alberto Fajardo, a 30-year-old illegal alien from Honduras, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for unlawfully reentering the United States. Fajardo, who was living in Houston, Texas, pleaded guilty on March 10, 2026, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles Eskridge. His criminal history includes shooting his girlfriend’s estranged husband in 2022, as well as prior convictions for burglary, possessing a firearm after a felony conviction, and aggravated assault.
Fajardo’s troubles with the law date back to 2015, when he was removed from the country. However, he illegally returned to the United States, leading to his latest conviction. His case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational crime.
The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robin Whitney and Amanda Alum prosecuting the case. Fajardo will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
