A 43-year-old Mexican national with a record of violence and a taste for meth has been locked away for 57 months. Miguel Carreon’s latest crime? Illegally reentering the US, a move he’s made before.
Carreon was first booted from the country in January 2016, but he came back, and in 2020, he was convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm in Harris County. But that wasn’t enough to keep him out of trouble. This year, he was caught again in Houston, and on September 29, 2025, he pleaded guilty to reentering the country without authorization.
Now, Carreon’s facing the music. US District Judge Kenneth Hoyt handed down the 57-month sentence, citing Carreon’s history of violence and his disregard for the law. In a statement, the court noted that reducing Carreon’s sentence would send the wrong message to him and others.
Carreon’s not done yet. He’ll be transferred to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in the near future. And after that, he’ll likely face removal proceedings, ending his US stay for good.
