In a year that saw 6.7 million violent victimizations across the United States, the Eastern District of Texas is joining the national observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

The week-long event, themed ‘Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities,’ highlights the importance of supporting victims of crime and acknowledging their rights.

U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs praised the efforts of Victim-Witness professionals in the Eastern District, who ‘listen’ to victims and answer their questions, while Financial Litigation and Asset Forfeiture teams ‘act’ to maximize asset recovery on behalf of victims.

‘Every day, our Assistant U.S. Attorneys appear in court to advocate for the rights of victims under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act (CVRA) and take steps to protect them,’ Combs added.
