BULLHEAD, SD – A 72-year-old man from Bullhead, South Dakota, has been hit with federal drug trafficking charges for distributing a substance containing Hydrocodone.
Quenton James Brown Otter was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2019. The charges stem from allegations that he knowingly and intentionally distributed the controlled substance between December 21, 2016, and March 27, 2017.
Brown Otter appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 23, 2019, where he entered a not guilty plea to the Indictment. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine, along with supervised release and restitution.
The investigation into Brown Otter’s alleged activities has been led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.
Despite the serious charges against him, Brown Otter was released on bond pending trial, and no trial date has yet been scheduled.
The maximum penalties for such a conviction are stark: up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of $1,000,000. The court may also order restitution to any victims identified in the case.
