Hartford Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Distributing Drugs Involved in 2 Enfield Overdose Deaths

On August 1, 2018, CHRISTOPHER BARRETO, 29, of Hartford, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribution, and distribution of, controlled substances. Barreto has been detained since October 22, 2018.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Barreto distributed heroin involved in two overdose deaths in Enfield in 2016. The victims, a 31-year-old male and a 36-year-old man, died from acute fentanyl and ethanol intoxication and the combined effects of fentanyl, furanyl fentanyl and heroin, respectively.

Barreto was sentenced to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for his crimes. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford on [DATE].

The investigation into Barreto’s crimes was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Enfield Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis.

This matter stems from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users.

At the time of his arrest, investigators seized approximately 2,000 wax folds of heroin from Barreto’s residence.
