Two Mexican Nationals Sentenced for Conspiring to Distribute Methamphetamine in the Metro East
In a devastating blow to the Metro East’s methamphetamine trade, Christian Renteria-Espinoza, age 32, and Raul Salazar-Ortega, age 35, both Mexican citizens, have been sentenced for their roles in a massive conspiracy to distribute the highly addictive and destructive substance.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois, Renteria-Espinoza was sentenced to 90 months imprisonment, while Salazar-Ortega received a 78-month sentence. Both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, a charge that carries severe penalties.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), revealed that the two men were active members of an organization that shipped large quantities of ‘ICE’ (99% pure meth) from San Diego, California, to the Metro East region in 2016.
