A Harrisonville man has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

Robert J. Keegan, 27, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips to 18 years in federal prison without parole on December 28, 2018.

On May 12, 2017, Keegan was stopped by law enforcement and found in possession of a firearm and a large quantity of methamphetamine. The methamphetamine seizure was approximately 3.8 kilograms, and the firearm was a Hi-point .40-caliber handgun.

Keegan pleaded guilty to participating in a drug-trafficking conspiracy and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.

Keegan is among five defendants who have pleaded guilty in this case. Co-defendants Benjamin W. Clark, 27, Jalie J. Brinlee, 29, and Felicia C. Ward, 23, all of Cameron; and Frank E. Hundley, 34, of Kansas City, Mo., have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

Under the terms of their plea agreements, subject to acceptance by the court, Clark and Brinlee each will be sentenced to 18 years in federal prison without parole. Ward and Hundley are subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of life in federal prison without parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Edwards is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Belton Police Department, the Independence Police Department, and the Jackson County Drug Task Force.
