Virginia Man Indicted for Cocaine and Heroin Distribution

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Roanoke, Virginia man has been hit with serious charges after a federal grand jury indicted him for allegedly possessing heroin and cocaine, according to a recent announcement from Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.

Wilbur Reid, Jr., 42, faces one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Hydrochloride’ and one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin.’

The alleged crimes took place in September 2016 in Berkeley County, West Virginia, where Reid is accused of engaging in the illicit activities.

Reid’s charges come with severe penalties, including up to 40 years in prison and a $5,000,000 fine for the first count, and up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine for the second count. The actual sentence imposed on Reid will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history he may have.

The investigation into Reid’s activities is being led by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Z. Krasinski is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government.

It is essential to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Reid is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region. As law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on illicit activities, those involved in such crimes can expect to face severe consequences.
