Teacher Flynn Indicted for Child Pornography Distribution

GREENBELT, MD – A chilling federal grand jury indicted Peter Flynn, a 61-year-old special education teacher from Silver Spring, Maryland, for distributing and possessing child pornography on January 21, 2015. Flynn was apprehended today and is set to appear in federal court at 1:30 p.m. in Greenbelt.

The United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Rod J. Rosenstein; Acting Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, Lt. Colonel Anthony C. Satchell; and Special Agent in Charge William Winter of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), announced the charges.

According to the two-count indictment, Flynn distributed child pornography on April 3, 2014, and possessed it on September 30, 2014. The teacher now faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison for distribution and up to 10 years for possession, along with potential lifetime supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Rosenstein praised the Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and HSI Baltimore’s role in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristi N. O’Malley and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Conor M. Mulroe of the U.S. Department of Justice are prosecuting the case.

Flynn is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. He is currently scheduled to face these serious charges in federal court.
