Daniel L Stewart, Armed Heroin Dealing, IN 2023

Indianapolis was shook by the sentencing of Daniel L. Stewart, 33, an armed heroin dealer who has been handed life imprisonment without parole for his criminal activities.

United States Attorney Josh J. Minkler announced the grim news, emphasizing that armed drug dealing is a major source of violence in Indianapolis. ‘Mr. Stewart will spend the rest of his life in a federal prison,’ said Minkler, underscoring the severity with which federal law enforcement views such crimes.

The saga began when Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers stopped Stewart for a traffic violation in 2015, resulting in the recovery of a loaded 9mm handgun and drugs. A subsequent search warrant at his apartment near Eagle Creek uncovered over 2 pounds of heroin, two kilograms of cocaine, more than 900 grams of methamphetamine, five firearms, and nearly $500,000 in cash.

Stewart’s past criminal history was no secret; he had five prior felony convictions for drug crimes. ‘I applaud the efforts of the US Attorney’s Office and our detectives on the successful prosecution of Mr. Stewart,’ said IMPD Chief Troy Riggs, emphasizing the department’s commitment to tackling violent offenders.

IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge James Robnett highlighted the importance of financial disruption in combating crime, ‘The life sentence of Mr. Stewart sends a loud message that we stand united with the rest of the law enforcement community.’ Assistant United States Attorneys Michelle P. Brady and Peter Blackett handled the prosecution for the government.
