Roanoke, Virginia – Two hard-core heroin kingpins have met their comeuppance after a federal court in Roanoke sentenced Kelly Marie Combs and Hameen Shahid Irvin to lengthy prison terms.
Kelly Marie Combs, 28, of Salem, Va., who had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute heroin, was handed down a 42-month federal prison sentence.
Irvin, 41, from Roanoke, Virginia, faced an even harsher penalty for his involvement in the same conspiracy involving 100 grams or more of heroin. He was sentenced to 90 months behind bars last week.
The duo, along with their co-conspirators, were fingered by Assistant United States Attorneys Ashley B. Neese and Jennie L. M. Waering as pivotal figures in the trafficking of substantial quantities of heroin from Baltimore into the Roanoke region. Combs and Irvin were regularly spotted driving to Maryland’s drug hotbed to buy their supply before returning to Virginia for redistribution.
“These sentences send a strong message that we will not tolerate those who bring drugs into our communities,” Acting United States Attorney Rick A. Mountcastle stated, underscoring the severity of the charges against them.
The investigation that led to their convictions was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Roanoke County Police Department, and the Virginia State Police. Assistant United States Attorneys Neese and Waering were instrumental in bringing these traffickers to justice on behalf of the federal government.
