Terry Glenn Williams, 33, of Newport News, stands accused of flooding Hampton Roads with heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine while using prostitution and violence to fuel a four-year drug empire. A federal grand jury returned a sweeping indictment against Williams and five co-defendants for their alleged roles in a deadly narcotics conspiracy that spanned Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach — and left at least two women dead.
Williams, described in court documents as an armed dealer operating out of multiple hotels, allegedly used female drug addicts in sex work to pay off debts and expand his operation. Prosecutors say he directly distributed the heroin that killed Michelle Gonyer on April 8, 2013, and caused serious bodily injury in another overdose. He and Kristen Rose Paiva, 26, of Hampton, are jointly charged in the fatal April 10, 2013, overdose of Caroline Eaton. Williams is also charged with carrying firearms during drug trafficking — a charge that carries its own severe penalties.
The indictment names Longene Durae Alexander, 34, Newport News; Tymane Raymond Springs, 32, Newport News; Tiffany Renee Taylor, 29, Newport News; Ashley Lorraine Kearney, 32, Yorktown; and Paiva as co-conspirators. All but Kearney face charges of conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, cocaine base, and fentanyl, as well as maintaining drug-involved premises and using communication devices to further the trade. Taylor and Kearney are each charged with distribution of heroin resulting in serious bodily injury. Paiva is charged with distribution resulting in death.
Williams faces a mountain of charges: Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Cocaine, Cocaine Base and Fentanyl; Maintaining Drug Involved Premises; Use of a Communication Facility to Facilitate Drug Trafficking; Distribution of Cocaine, Cocaine Base and Heroin; Distribution of Heroin resulting in Death and Serious Bodily Injury; and Money laundering. Alexander faces identical charges. Springs is charged with all except money laundering. Williams, Alexander, Springs, Taylor, and Paiva each face a maximum penalty of 20 years to life in prison. Kearney faces a maximum of 20 years.
Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Karl C. Colder, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Washington Field Division, confirmed the charges after the grand jury’s action. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lisa R. McKeel and Howard J. Zlotnick are leading the prosecution. The case, docketed as 4:17-cr-16, is now moving toward arraignment in the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
An indictment contains allegations only. Terry Glenn Williams, Longene Durae Alexander, Tymane Raymond Springs, Tiffany Renee Taylor, Ashley Lorraine Kearney, and Kristen Rose Paiva are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Court records and related documents are available via the U.S. Attorney’s Office website, the Eastern District of Virginia court site, or through PACER under Case No. 4:17-cr-16.
