Raul Barocio, Cocaine Conspiracy, Ohio 2016

CINCINNATI – The grimy streets of Cincinnati were hit with a heavy blow yesterday as Raul Barocio, the 47-year-old cocaine kingpin, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison. Barocio was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine after pleading guilty in April 2016.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, Benjamin C. Glassman, along with Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. Plancon of the DEA and Judge Susan Dlott, announced the sentence during a solemn court proceeding.

Seven co-defendants from the Cincinnati area were also sentenced, ranging from 60 to 108 months for their roles in the cocaine conspiracy. Carmella V. Smith was given 87 months, while Daymond Williams faced the longest sentence of 108 months.

The plea agreements revealed a chilling web of distribution. Barocio admitted to obtaining cocaine and supplying it to Smith, who then distributed to Williams and others. Williams in turn provided the drug to Derrick Thorne, Gregory Jordan, Deantre B. Pruett, Wallace Jones, Tonya R. Ratliff, and himself to street-level users.

“This was a significant cocaine trafficking organization in the Cincinnati area,” Glassman stated. “As we combat the opioid epidemic, we must also confront the dangers of other drugs like cocaine.”

Glassman commended the DEA task force and Assistant U.S. Attorney Karl P. Kadon for their tireless efforts in bringing Barocio and his co-defendants to justice.
