Adrian Gomez, Heroin Distribution near Schools, California 2023

San Diego – In a groundbreaking crackdown on drug trafficking, Adrian Gomez, alias ‘Bandit,’ has been sentenced to life imprisonment for heroin distribution within 700 feet of three Oceanside schools. The 55-year-old Carlsbad gang member was arrested during a massive federal operation targeting North County’s heroin and methamphetamine trade.

The investigation revealed that Gomez controlled drug sales in the Posole neighborhood, a territory spanning off the I-5 freeway and Highway 76 in Oceanside. His three-month wiretap showed a relentless pace of drug sales, averaging daily transactions to dozens of customers.

U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman commented on the operation: “We have a special resolve to go after gangs that operate near our schools. When they endanger our children, we will act decisively.”

The operation, which involved over 100 law enforcement agents, resulted in the arrest of 37 gang members and associates. Authorities seized significant amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and firearms, including semi-automatics.

Theresa Lapolla, another key figure arrested, was charged with possession with intent to distribute over 100 grams of heroin within 1000 feet of a school, carrying a doubled maximum punishment of 80 years in prison.

The yearlong investigation targeted Gomez and Gonzalez, along with numerous associates, dismantling drug trafficking operations that threatened the community’s safety. These efforts are part of the Department of Justice’s ongoing battle against the opioid epidemic and related violent crime.
