RALEIGH, N.C. – In a stunning turn of events, Lamont Turrentine, a resident of Four Oaks, North Carolina, was handed a 120-month sentence today for his unlawful possession of ammunition and the audacious shootout with law enforcement.

According to court documents, on April 28, 2018, officers from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were called to respond to an in-progress burglary. The pursuit of several suspects led them to Turrentine, who engaged in a gunfight with the pursuing deputy, hitting his patrol vehicle with multiple shots.

The defendant managed to evade law enforcement for a brief period but was eventually captured. Authorities recovered a Springfield 9mm firearm on the scene, which was matched to shell casings found at the shootout location by ballistics experts.

Turrentine’s previous record included convictions for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and cocaine distribution. His latest conviction brings his total sentence to ten years in federal prison.
