Armed Bank Robbery Rocks New Orleans Community

A brazen armed bank robbery shook the New Orleans community when Jimmie Powell, 27, stormed into the Chase Bank at 1425 North Broad Street, Louisiana, on June 25, 2020. According to eyewitnesses, Powell brandished a firearm at an ATM teller and made off with over $52,000 in cash.

The FBI and New Orleans Police Department quickly launched an investigation, scouring the area for any leads. Their tireless efforts finally paid off, and on July 24, a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Powell for armed bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2113(a) and 2113(d).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa Bücher has been assigned to prosecute the case, and U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser praised the work of the FBI and NOPD in bringing the perpetrator to justice.

Powell faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty-five years, a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a mandatory $100 special assessment if convicted.
