A 44-year-old Jefferson Parish felon is behind bars after a stash of fentanyl and cocaine was seized in New Orleans. Derrick Serignet possessed the deadly substances and a firearm on February 4, 2026, and was indicted February 26. The charges include trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of that crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Serignet’s prior convictions for attempted armed robbery in Jefferson Parish disqualify him from owning a gun.
Prosecutors are seeking up to 20 years in prison for the trafficking charge and a mandatory five-year sentence for the firearm charge, which will run consecutively to any other term.
The indictment is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
