A former Bosnian soldier, Nada Radovan Tomanić, 53, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for lying about her role in torturing Bosnian Serb civilians during the 1990s war in Bosnia.
Tomanić served with the Zulfikar Special Unit, a notorious paramilitary group, and was responsible for severe physical and psychological abuse of prisoners.
In 2012, she applied for U.S. naturalization in Hartford, Connecticut, and lied about her past crimes, falsely denying any involvement in detention facilities or torture.
Despite being placed under oath during her naturalization interview, Tomanić continued to lie about her role in the war crimes.
