SEATTLE – In a stunning turn of events, 45-year-old Rustam Yusupov from Shoreline, Washington, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle to unlawful possession of ammunition, according to U.S. Attorney Nick Brown.
The plea comes after police discovered an arsenal in a downtown Seattle hotel room that belonged to Yusupov, who is now facing up to ten years in prison when sentenced by U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour on May 2, 2023.
Records show Seattle Police Officers were called to the hotel room on March 10, 2022, after a man was reported asking for help. Upon entering the room, officers discovered two firearms, including a ghost gun, with no serial number. The distraught man turned out to be Yusupov.
As officers prepared to leave, they were alerted by a hotel staff member about weapons in Yusupov’s car. An inventory revealed multiple firearms, including two additional ghost guns. In all, police recovered seven firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition.
In a plea agreement, Yusupov admitted that he is the subject of a domestic violence protection order and had been ordered by King County Superior Court to surrender all his weapons. Despite these orders, Yusupov was found to have concealed an array of weaponry at his residence, including two inert grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
The case is currently under investigation by the Seattle Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), with Assistant United States Attorney Todd Greenberg handling the prosecution.
