In a brazen display of brazen disregard for human life, 41-year-old Brandon Lamont Myers of Picayune, MS, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 13 grams of fentanyl.
According to court records, on August 14, 2023, law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant for Myers’ residence in Pearl River County, Mississippi. Agents seized a staggering $61,276 in cash and 13 grams of the deadly substance. The haul also included a box of clear plastic bags and several digital scales.
Fentanyl, as any law enforcement officer will tell you, is a ticking time bomb. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration warns that the highly potent opioid is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin. A paltry two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal, and a single kilogram has the potential to kill a staggering 500,000 people.
Myers, who faces up to twenty years in prison, will be sentenced on July 30, 2024. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Picayune Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erica Rose is prosecuting the case, which is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Anessa Daniels-McCaw of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Acting Special Agent in Charge Eric DeLaune of Homeland Security Investigations made the announcement, vowing to continue the relentless pursuit of those who seek to peddle death on our streets.
The OCDETF program, designed to target the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations, will continue to utilize a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to dismantle these networks and keep our communities safe.
As the Grimy Times continues to expose the depths of the fentanyl crisis, it’s clear that those who profit from peddling death will be held accountable. We will continue to shine a light on those who seek to harm our communities, and we will not rest until justice is served.
