JACKSON, MS – A Jackson man is headed for a long stretch behind bars after a federal judge slammed him with 188 months – 15 years and 8 months – for peddling fentanyl. Roman Walker, 35, learned his fate Tuesday after admitting he was a major player in moving the deadly opioid through Hinds County.
Cops busted Walker after a January 24, 2023 raid on his house. They didn’t find a stash, they found a business. Investigators said Walker was operating a full-blown narcotics “menu,” complete with prices and hours of operation. The search turned up over 11,000 blue fentanyl pills, a significant amount of fentanyl powder, and methamphetamine, all pre-packaged for street-level distribution in the Jackson metro area.
The case was built by the DEA, with help from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. US Attorney Baxter Kruger and DEA SAC Steven Hofer announced the sentence. Assistant US Attorney C. Brett Grantham handled the prosecution.
Federal officials say Walker’s conviction falls under “Operation Take Back America,” a broad initiative aiming to dismantle drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations. While the DOJ spins it as immigration enforcement, the program is clearly being used to hit drug networks hard.
