New Orleans, LOUISIANA – In a gritty turn of events, Niroko Johnson, known as ‘Ro,’ has been sentenced to decades in prison for his role in a major drug operation. The 29-year-old resident of New Orleans faced justice on August 14, 2025, when United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier handed down sentences for the distribution and possession of fentanyl and illegal gun ownership.
In a court plea deal, Johnson confessed to possessing over seven hundred grams of the deadly drug fentanyl, with intent to distribute. His actions landed him an 180-month sentence—a grim 15 years in the slammer—for the drug charges. Additionally, Johnson was sentenced to 120 months—10 years—for being a felon in possession of firearms, due to his prior convictions.
On March 18, 2022, law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence, where they recovered a staggering 747 grams of fentanyl and two firearms. According to court records, Johnson admitted to the fentanyl possession with intent to distribute and acknowledged his illegal gun ownership, knowing full well that he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his criminal history.
This sentence comes as part of an extensive investigation led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). The OCDETF is a pivotal federal, state, and local collaboration aimed at tackling drug trafficking head-on. It serves as the nation’s primary tool in disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, coordinating law enforcement efforts to seize assets and dismantle criminal networks.
The Johnson investigation was a collaborative effort by multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit handled the prosecution.
Johnson’s sentence is a stark reminder of the relentless fight against drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession in Louisiana and across the nation.
