PHILADELPHIA – The grimy streets of Allentown, Pennsylvania, have once again been marred by the activities of a drug kingpin. Francis Matos, 51, was sentenced to two years’ probation and a $5,000 fine today by United States District Judge John M. Gallagher for his role in conspiracy to introduce misbranded drugs into interstate commerce.
Matos, who operated under the alias Suplidora America, had been charged by information in April this year and pleaded guilty in May. Court filings revealed a sinister operation that began as early as May 2022, where Matos arranged for others to purchase pharmaceuticals, including sildenafil, from the Dominican Republic and mail them to his contacts in Allentown.
But it didn’t end there. Matos also procured drugs outside Pennsylvania’s borders and transported them back home, all without a license. His network then sold these drugs to unsuspecting customers at local convenience stores, often bypassing the necessity of a prescription, a flagrant disregard for the law that put countless individuals at risk.
United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentence, emphasizing the serious nature of Matos’ crimes. ‘The illegal distribution of misbranded drugs is a significant threat to public health,’ Metcalf stated. ‘Matos chose to profit from this perilous enterprise, putting lives at risk in the process.’
This case was brought to light by Homeland Security Investigations and the Food and Drug Administration Office of Criminal Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney John J. Boscia leading the prosecution.
While the federal government shutdown from October 1, 2025, to November 12, 2025, delayed the posting of this press release, it does not diminish the gravity of Matos’ sentence or his role in the illegal drug trade that has plagued Allentown and beyond.
