ALBANY, NEW YORK – In a gritty turn of events, Kwahpreme Mitchell, 34, from Watervliet, has admitted to a dangerous blend of firearms and drugs. Mitchell pled guilty today for possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking and possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III, along with ATF Special Agent in Charge Bryan Miller, NYSP Superintendent Steven G. James, and Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, announced the charges against Mitchell. The 34-year-old was caught in a web of stolen guns and illegal drugs, receiving firearms from Jonathon Combs and Martin Taft after agreeing to provide them with cocaine.
Mitchell’s previous conviction on a New York State felony drug charge made him ineligible for legal firearm possession. He exchanged approximately 3.5 grams of cocaine base for a shotgun on October 15, 2022, and was involved in the October 21, 2022, theft from Calamity Jane’s Firearms and Fine Shoes, in Hudson Falls.
Sarcone emphasized the Department of Justice’s commitment to stopping armed drug dealers. “Drugs and guns are a dangerous combination,” he said. Miller highlighted the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies to combat this type of crime.
NYSP Superintendent James praised collaborative efforts for protecting public safety, while Sheriff Murphy emphasized the risks associated with drug and gun activities in communities.
Sentencing is set for January 9, 2026, with Mitchell facing up to life imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and up to five years of supervised release. The investigation was conducted by NYSP, ATF, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen J. Vickey.
