Tax Cheat Sentenced to Prison

A Kentucky man has been sentenced to federal prison for cheating the IRS out of nearly $250,000 in taxes. Christopher Hutchinson, of Ashland, Kentucky, was ordered to make full restitution for failing to pay federal employment taxes on the wages of his employees.

Hutchinson owned and operated at least ten different electrical and security businesses in the Huntington, West Virginia and Ashland, Kentucky areas, including Peck Security Systems and ICE Electrical Company. As an employer, he was required to collect taxes from the wages of his employees and pay those taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

The Internal Revenue Service conducted the investigation, which ultimately led to Hutchinson’s guilty plea on October 15, 2013. Assistant United States Attorney Erik S. Goes handled the prosecution, assisted by Charles Edgar with the United States Tax Division.
